The Riviera wakes up early. Cours Saleya is set up by seven — flowers, olives, socca off the wood-fire griddle. Walk the old town while it’s shaded and still smells of espresso, climb Castle Hill before the heat lands. The light is at its best.

On the water
When the sun moves overhead the beach gets crowded and the breeze gets better offshore. Catamarans run from Villefranche bay, snorkelling boats to Cap Ferrat, longer cruises down towards Cannes. The coastline reads better from the sea.
